These allow the driver to select the amount of shocker damping by simply pressing a button on the instrument panel. The variation in dumping is achieved by varying the size of the orifices in the shock absorber valves by means of a small electric motor mounted at the top of the shock absorber. This motor actuates a control rod, the different positions of which vary the orifice size. This is achieved only in a fraction of a second. This method has been further automated with the use of computer. A computer controlled system activates the shock absorber according to inputs from various vehicle sensors.
